Three Indonesians Awarded Long-Term Residency for Heroic Wildfire Evacuation Efforts

Seoul: The South Korean government announced on Sunday its decision to grant long-term residency status to three Indonesian nationals who played a significant role in evacuating senior citizens during the recent wildfires in the country's southeastern region.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the justice ministry is considering issuing an F-2 visa to Sugianto, an Indonesian sailor credited with saving approximately 60 elderly individuals from the deadly wildfire in Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province. This type of visa guarantees long-term residency and can be awarded by the justice minister to foreign nationals who have made "special contributions" to South Korea or have been recognized for their role in promoting the public interest.

Lee Han-kyung, deputy chief of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, stated, "(The government) has decided to grant residency status for special contributions to three Indonesians who helped evacuate aged people from the wildfires." While Sugianto's efforts have been highlighted, details about the other two Indonesian nationals remain unavailable.
