Top Diplomats of South Korea, U.S., and Japan to Convene for Trilateral Talks in New York

New york: The top diplomats of South Korea, the United States, and Japan are scheduled to engage in trilateral talks on the fringes of the U.N. General Assembly in New York this week, as confirmed by Seoul’s foreign ministry on Monday. South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will meet U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya for discussions planned for Monday afternoon, local time. The ministry conveyed this information to reporters without providing further specifics on the agenda or topics to be discussed during the meeting.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the last occasion that saw high-level diplomatic engagement between the three nations was in Malaysia. These discussions occurred alongside the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-related meetings. At that time, a South Korean vice foreign minister represented South Korea in place of Cho Hyun, who was unable to attend due to his ongoing parliamentary appointment process.

The upcoming meeting in New York signifies a continuation of diplomatic efforts to address regional and international issues involving these key allies. The discussions are expected to cover a range of topics pertinent to mutual interests and regional security. The outcome of these talks may have implications for future diplomatic strategies and collaborations among the three countries.
