Gyeongju: The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) on Tuesday inspected the military's security measures ahead of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, the JCS said.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Gen. Jin Yong-sung visited military units responsible for security operations, as well as sites for bodyguard training and anti-terrorism operations, as South Korea is set to host the APEC summit in the southeastern city of Gyeongju on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
Aboard the P-8 maritime patrol aircraft, Jin conducted a command flight over waters off the country's eastern coast and called for an "ironclad" readiness posture. He also urged troops to conduct their duties in a safe and timely manner against possible military and nonmilitary situations that may occur.
As part of the inspection, Jin visited a command center at Hwabaek International Convention Center in Gyeongju, where he was briefed on security and counterterrorism operations to ensure safety. The military plans to mobilize some 3,600 troops and a range of equipment to conduct joint security operations with relevant institutions for the two-day summit.
