Trump Highlights South Korea’s $350 Billion Investment Commitment as ‘Up Front’

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday characterized South Korea's US$350 billion investment pledge as "up front," while both nations continue to negotiate the particulars of the investment package, including the financial mechanisms involved.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump made these comments during a press briefing at the White House. His remarks come amid South Korea's efforts to resolve a deadlock in discussions concerning a July trade agreement. Under this deal, South Korea committed to the investment and various other pledges in exchange for the United States reducing reciprocal tariffs from 25 percent to 15 percent.

Trump further emphasized that, "In Japan, it's $550 billion. South Korea is $350 billion that's up front," indicating that his administration's tariff policy is generating "tremendous" revenue. This declaration highlights the ongoing economic negotiations and the significant financial commitments involved between the two countries.
