Trump Omits North Korea in UNGA Speech, Criticizes UN’s Role in Global Conflicts

New york: U.S. President Donald Trump, addressing the United Nations General Assembly, made no reference to North Korea or issues concerning the Korean Peninsula, while emphasizing his efforts in promoting global peace by claiming to have "ended seven wars" since assuming office.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump highlighted his administration's achievements in mediating conflicts between several nations, including Israel and Iran, and Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. His remarks followed North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's recent expression of willingness to engage in dialogue with the United States if Washington drops its denuclearization demands, hinting at the possibility of renewed talks for a peace agreement.

During his address, Trump refrained from mentioning North Korea, a topic he had previously addressed in three out of four speeches during his first term. Instead, he criticized the United Nations for its lack of support in resolving international conflicts, stating that the organization had not lived up to its potential and had failed to assist in his peace efforts.

Trump also noted his intention to reengage with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during his upcoming visit to South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. This potential meeting could mark a continuation of their diplomacy, which has included three prior summits.

Furthermore, Trump addressed the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, criticizing China and India for their purchases of Russian oil and urging Europe to cease energy imports from Russia. He warned that the U.S. is prepared to impose tariffs on Russia should it refuse to negotiate peace.

In addition to his peace initiatives, Trump touted his "America First" policy achievements, including improved border security and trade deals, while criticizing former President Joe Biden's administration. He defended his use of tariffs as a protective measure and called for global efforts to end the development of biological and nuclear weapons.

Finally, Trump dismissed climate change initiatives as a "green scam" and urged world leaders to abandon these efforts, framing energy and immigration issues as significant threats to Western countries.
