Seoul: The floor leader of South Korea's main opposition Democratic Party (DP) has urged the government to reconsider its stance on providing military support to Ukraine, following the recent election victory of former U.S. President Donald Trump. In a policy meeting held at the National Assembly, Park Chan-dae emphasized that Trump's leadership could bring "massive changes in international affairs," potentially impacting the conflict in Ukraine.According to Yonhap News Agency, Park highlighted Trump's campaign assertions that he would prioritize ending the war quickly, suggesting that South Korea should not rush into supplying weapons to Ukraine. He cautioned the government against hastily deploying troops or offering arms support, as the international landscape may shift under Trump's administration.Throughout his campaign, Trump expressed skepticism about ongoing U.S. support for Ukraine, claiming he could resolve the conflict with Russia within "24 hours" of reelection. This stance contrasts with Sout h Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's recent openness to considering arms provision to Ukraine, marking a potential shift from the country's existing policy of humanitarian and non-lethal aid.Despite Trump's victory, President Yoon maintained at a press conference that South Korea could potentially provide weapons to Ukraine, contingent upon the level of North Korean military involvement in the conflict.
