Washington: The United States is closely monitoring developments related to North Korea in collaboration with South Korea, following the recent firing of approximately 10 artillery rounds by Pyongyang from its multiple rocket launcher system. This update was provided by a White House spokesperson on Thursday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Karoline Leavitt, the White House spokesperson, emphasized that President Donald Trump will not tolerate any threats against American interests during his tenure. She stated at a press briefing that the Trump administration is maintaining close contact with its new South Korean counterparts to deter adversaries and ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.
Leavitt further commented, "No matter where, our adversaries and our allies alike know that President Trump will not tolerate threats against our interests on his watch, even as he works to resolve the wars that he inherited." The artillery rounds were reportedly fired towards the Yellow Sea from the Sunan area near Pyongyang, according to South Korea's military.
The North Korean 240mm multiple rocket launcher system places Seoul and nearby regions within range. Last year, North Korea conducted a test-launch of what it described as a multiple rocket launcher equipped with a new guidance system.
