U.S. Reiterates Commitment to ‘Complete’ Denuclearization of North Korea

Washington: A State Department spokesperson has confirmed the United States' ongoing policy of pursuing the "complete denuclearization" of North Korea. This announcement comes shortly after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed a willingness to engage with Washington, provided it abandons its demand for North Korea's denuclearization.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Jong-un demonstrated an openness to conditional dialogue with the United States during a recent speech to the North Korean parliament. Kim remarked on his personal positive memory of U.S. President Donald Trump, which has fueled speculation about a possible resumption of discussions between the two leaders.

President Trump has also expressed a desire to meet with Kim this year, intensifying speculation that a meeting could occur during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, scheduled for October 31 to November 1. Trump's previous diplomatic efforts with Kim during his first term in office resulted in three high-profile meetings, including summits in Singapore and Hanoi, and a meeting at the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom.
