Seoul: The United States is set to replace its acting ambassador to South Korea prior to U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to the nation later this month, as revealed by diplomatic sources.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Joseph Yun, who has served as the acting U.S. ambassador to South Korea, is anticipated to resign from his position around next Sunday. Yun has held the role for nine months, having been appointed earlier this year.
U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kevin Kim is being considered as a potential successor to Yun. President Trump is scheduled to visit South Korea from October 29 to 30 for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings, as confirmed by South Korea’s national security adviser. Yun’s tenure as acting ambassador began in January under the Joe Biden administration, shortly before Trump’s inauguration.
