First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo has called for expanding trade and cultural cooperation between East Asia and Latin America amid global uncertainties and challenges to multilateralism, the foreign ministry said Friday. Park made the remarks during the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar, where he was visiting to attend the meeting with FEALAC member states.
According to Yonhap News Agency, FEALAC is a 36-member regional forum established in 1999 to promote regular government-level dialogue between the two regions. Its main office is located in Seoul. "The vice minister underscored the importance of FEALAC to boost cooperation by invigorating trade and promoting cultural exchanges between the two regions," the ministry said in a release.
Park, in particular, proposed holding trade and investment forums and pushing for cultural exchange projects between cities of the member nations. Park also called on FEALAC to remain anchored in its founding objective of fostering dialogue and mutual understanding between the two regions, amid shifting geopolitical dynamics and weakening multilateralism, the ministry said.
