Seoul: First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo has urged China to intensify its patrols to combat illegal fishing near the western maritime border. This request was made during a meeting with Shan Yi, the vice governor of Liaoning Province, as reported by the foreign ministry.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Park emphasized the need for increased vigilance in the waters near the Northern Limit Line, the unofficial maritime boundary between the Koreas in the Yellow Sea. This area has seen frequent incursions by Chinese fishing vessels, a recurring issue that Seoul has persistently addressed with Beijing, advocating for stronger measures to deter such illegal activities.
During the discussion, Park also sought support from the vice governor to safeguard the rights and safety of South Korean businesses operating within Liaoning Province. In response, Shan Yi expressed his province's commitment to maintaining and enhancing friendly exchanges and cooperation with South Korea, expressing hope for continued collaboration between the two regions.
