Seoul: Vietnam's top leader To Lam, who is on a state visit to South Korea after holding summit talks with President Lee Jae Myung, has received an honorary doctorate in political science from Yonsei University, officials said Tuesday. Lam, general secretary of Vietnam's Communist Party, was awarded the honorary degree during his visit to the university located in western Seoul.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lam used the ceremony as an opportunity to advocate for stronger ties between South Korea and Vietnam. He highlighted challenges in the global trade environment and non-traditional security issues as areas where collaboration would be beneficial. "The world today is experiencing unprecedented changes," Lam noted, expressing his hope for cooperation in multilateral systems and joint management of international law.
During his speech, Lam also acknowledged South Korea's rapid economic growth following the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. He attributed this success to the country's efficient government, cultural depth, and skilled workforce. Lam's visit is notably the first state visit by a foreign leader since the inauguration of the Lee administration in early June.
