Yoon names new chief of anti-corruption investigation office

President Yoon Suk Yeol on Friday nominated a former judge as the new chief of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), his office said.

Oh Dong-woon, now a lawyer for law firm Keumseong, was chosen between two candidates put forward by a parliamentary panel tasked with recommending candidates for head of the anti-corruption investigation office, according to presidential spokesperson Kim Soo-kyung.

Oh’s appointment will be subject to a parliamentary confirmation process.

The nomination comes three months after the inaugural CIO chief, Kim Jin-wook, retired following a three-year term.

Oh served as a judge from 2002-2017.
