Russia Labels North Korea’s Missile Tests as ‘Legitimate’ Defensive Actions: TASS.

MOSCOW: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko declared on Tuesday that North Korea's recent missile tests were "legitimate" defensive measures. His comments were made in response to perceived provocations by the United States, according to Russia's state-run news agency, TASS. Rudenko's remarks align with the position of Russia's Permanent Representative to the U.N., Vasily Nebenzya, who has previously defended North Korea's ballistic missile activities, despite them being prohibited under U.N. Security Council resolutions.According to Yonhap News Agency, Rudenko described the missile tests as a reaction from North Korea to the developments around the Korean Peninsula, particularly the activities undertaken by the United States and its allies. He emphasized that these tests were "a legitimate measure" for ensuring North Korea's defense capabilities. The situation escalated earlier in the day when North Korea launched multiple short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, following the launch of the Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) just five days prior. This new ICBM, when fired at a normal angle, is theoretically capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.Rudenko further highlighted the significance of the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty signed between Pyongyang and Moscow in June, which he claimed reflects the geopolitical landscape influenced by U.S. actions in the region. These actions reportedly include the deployment of advanced weaponry and the formation of new military and political alliances. The treaty between Russia and North Korea includes a mutual defense clause, committing both nations to provide military support if either comes under attack.
