Ruling Party Chief Supports Impeachment of President Yoon

SEOUL: The leader of South Korea's ruling People Power Party (PPP) has publicly supported the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol following his declaration of martial law last week. Han Dong-hoon urged PPP lawmakers to cast their votes according to their "conviction," as the opposition Democratic Party (DP) prepares to introduce a new impeachment motion.According to Yonhap News Agency, Han made his remarks during a press conference, emphasizing the need to resolve the ongoing political turmoil. He stated, "We must stop further confusion. There is only one effective method now." He encouraged PPP lawmakers to participate in the upcoming impeachment vote, despite the previous motion's failure due to a boycott by the majority of PPP members.When questioned about his stance on the impeachment, Han unequivocally expressed his support, stating, "Yes," and noted that there is no other viable option. He also criticized President Yoon for not showing any intention of stepping down early, which contradicts his e arlier promise to leave such decisions, including the duration of his term, to the PPP.
