SEOUL: South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT has announced the completion of a detailed road map aimed at achieving carbon neutrality across multiple industrial sectors. The plan outlines strategies to reach net zero carbon emissions in six key areas, including wind power and energy storage.According to Yonhap News Agency, the presidential special committee on carbon neutrality technologies has developed this strategy to advance carbon reduction technologies in 17 distinct areas. These range from traditional sectors such as steelmaking and chemical industries to more modern fields like car manufacturing and nuclear power.The government has laid out plans to push for the development of next-generation offshore wind turbines, integrated energy systems, and eco-friendly data centers. Vice Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Ryu Kwang-jun emphasized the necessity of these efforts, noting the urgent reality of climate change and the importance of striving for carbon neutrality.South Korea has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent from 2018 levels by the year 2030, with a long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
