SEOUL: Army Chief of Staff Gen. Park An-su, who briefly served as the chief martial law commander during President Yoon Suk Yeol's short-lived imposition of martial law, was suspended from his duties on Thursday, according to the defense ministry. This development comes as part of a broader investigation into the military's involvement in the controversial decision taken on December 3.According to Yonhap News Agency, Gen. Park is one of several military commanders to face suspension amid the ongoing probe. The suspension follows his role in the issuance of a military decree that barred all political activities, a move made under his name shortly after the martial law announcement. During a parliamentary session, Park claimed that he was unaware of the martial law decision until President Yoon's televised address and denied having any responsibility for drafting the decree.Gen. Park had initially offered his resignation to former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun on the day the martial law was lifted. However , he continued in his role after President Yoon rejected his resignation. The defense ministry's recent actions have included suspending six other senior military officials, covering key commands such as the Capital Defense Command, the Army Special Warfare Command, the Counterintelligence Command, and the Defense Intelligence Command.
