Sinpho: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has inspected a newly completed fish farm in Sinpho, a coastal city in the east, advocating for regional economic self-reliance, according to state media reports on Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim attended the opening ceremony of the Sinpho City Offshore Farm on Saturday. This visit follows his directive to establish the farm during a July meeting focused on regional economic development. Kim emphasized that offshore farming will reshape the nation's fishing industry. He urged future offshore farms to be more advanced and tailored to regional characteristics to ensure economic growth in those areas.
Kim highlighted the importance of practical realization of self-reliance and self-sustenance, specifically addressing the residents of Sinpho. He called upon other cities and counties to achieve economic independence by developing and utilizing local natural resources and economic advantages.
During his tour of the fish farm, Kim inspected facilities including a scallop processing unit and reviewed various seafood products, emphasizing the need to enhance the farm's profitability and efficiency. This visit marks his third to the facility, following an initial inspection in July and a subsequent visit in November when construction was ongoing.
