Political Leaders Gather in Bongha for Memorial Service of Former President Roh

Bongha: Heavyweight politicians from both liberal and conservative parties, including Democratic Party (DP) presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung, gathered in Bongha to attend a memorial service marking the 16th anniversary of the death of former President Roh Moo-hyun. The event takes place in the southeastern rural village where Roh spent his post-presidency years, just days before the June 3 presidential election.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the memorial service drew a wide range of political figures, including Rep. Kim Yong-tae, interim leader of the conservative People Power Party, and DP floor leader Park Chan-dae. On the sidelines of the service, Lee Jae-myung is expected to meet with former President Moon Jae-in, who was a key secretary during Roh's administration.

Early on Friday, Lee Jae-myung paid tribute to the late president through a Facebook post, pledging to carry forward Roh's legacy of justice and adherence to principles. His commitment to uphold these values resonates with the path Roh had chosen during his tenure.

In addition, Lee Jun-seok, the presidential candidate of the conservative minor New Reform Party, visited Bongha to pay his respects to the late president. Roh Moo-hyun, a liberal leader who governed South Korea from 2003 to 2008, tragically ended his life 15 years ago amid a corruption investigation involving his family and aides.
