Seoul: The presidential office is set to launch a planning committee on state affairs next week to outline detailed tasks, as announced by the appointed committee leader on Wednesday. Lee Han-joo, who has been selected to chair the policy planning committee on state affairs, revealed that the committee will begin its operations next Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Han-joo, previously the head of the Democratic Party's Institute for Democracy think tank, will lead the committee for a 60-day period. The committee's primary objective is to draft the new administration's major policy tasks. This initiative comes in the wake of President Lee Jae-myung's inauguration last week, which occurred without the conventional two-month transition period. This was due to the removal of former President Yoon Suk Yeol from office following his unsuccessful martial law attempt.
The planning committee is intended to function as a de facto presidential transition committee. It will be composed of 55 members and will feature seven subcommittees. The respective heads of these subcommittees are expected to be appointed in the near future.
