Seoul: Samsung SDI Co., South Korea's second-largest battery maker, announced it has entered into a battery supply agreement with German energy storage system (ESS) provider Tesvolt AG. The deal will see Samsung SDI providing its Samsung Battery Box (SBB) products to Tesvolt by the end of this month. Tesvolt plans to integrate a power conversion system and cybersecurity features into the SBB units to offer comprehensive ESS solutions to its European clientele.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Tesvolt recently revealed its intention to strengthen its partnership with Samsung SDI. The decision is largely driven by the SBB's Enhanced Direct Injection (EDI) system, a unique technology that prevents battery fires, along with its high durability and low noise levels. "We have been supplying ESS batteries to Tesvolt since 2017, and with the addition of SBB products, our cooperation is expected to grow even stronger," a Samsung SDI official stated in the release.
Samsung SDI's SBB is housed in a 20-foot container, complete with battery cells, modules, and racks, and is ready for immediate deployment upon connection to the power grid. This product has earned a strong reputation in international markets, particularly in the United States and Europe, thanks to its significantly enhanced safety features.
The company has already secured orders amounting to 90 percent of its planned ESS battery production capacity for this year, reflecting the strong demand for its advanced battery solutions.
