Washington: The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) announced that its business delegation has concluded a productive four-day visit to Washington, focused on enhancing South Korea-U.S. economic cooperation following a leadership transition in Seoul.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the delegation participated in AMCHAM's annual "Doorknock" program starting June 9, during which they conducted approximately 40 meetings with high-level officials from various U.S. departments, including treasury, commerce, state, energy, and defense. The delegation also engaged with representatives from the U.S. Trade Representative's office, the National Security Council, and the office of the vice president.
This visit represented AMCHAM's initial outreach to the United States since the recent inauguration of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung. The delegation emphasized Seoul's ongoing commitment to the bilateral relationship and explored opportunities for expanded collaboration, especially in strategic sectors.
AMCHAM highlighted South Korea's role as the leading foreign investor in the U.S. and stressed the significance of maintaining a stable business environment amid ongoing tariff discussions between the two nations.
James Kim, AMCHAM chairman and CEO, remarked, "This year's Doorknock provided a valuable forum to engage directly with U.S. policymakers. We saw strong interest in expanding cooperation in key industries, and we look forward to continued dialogue in support of the U.S.-Korea economic partnership."
