Lee Appoints Five Vice Ministers in Key Government Departments

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Sunday appointed vice ministers of the justice, science, industry, health, and transport ministries in the latest appointments of senior officials, the presidential office said.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Jin-soo, director of the criminal affairs department at the Supreme Prosecutors Office, has been appointed vice minister of justice, as announced by presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung in a written briefing.

Ryu Je-myung, who served as director of network policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, was promoted to the position of second vice minister. This move highlights the government's focus on advancing its digital and technological infrastructure.

In the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Lee Ho-hyeon, who previously directed energy policy, has been elevated to second vice minister, specifically focusing on energy policy. This appointment underscores the administration's commitment to innovating within the energy sector.

Additionally, the health sector saw the appointment of Lee Hyung-hoon, president of the Korea Public Tissue Bank, as second vice minister of health and welfare. The Korea Public Tissue Bank operates under the health ministry and is responsible for processing and distributing donated human tissue to medical institutions, indicating a strategic move to enhance healthcare services.

Finally, Lee Sang-kyeong, a professor at Gachon University, known for his reformist stance on real estate, has been appointed as the first vice minister of land, infrastructure, and transport. His appointment reflects an effort to reform institutional policies within the real estate and infrastructure sectors.

"With the appointments, the government will lead efforts to reform key institutions and to foster the artificial intelligence, energy, and pharmaceutical and biotech industries," spokesperson Kang stated, emphasizing the administration's strategic focus on innovation and reform across various sectors.
