Ex-President Yoon Seeks to Delay Special Counsel Questioning Again

Seoul: Former President Yoon Suk Yeol has requested a delay for the second round of questioning by the special counsel regarding his martial law bid. This request comes as Yoon seeks to postpone the session initially set for Tuesday to Thursday or a later date, emphasizing the need for consultation with his legal team.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon's legal representatives have informed the press of the request for postponement, citing the former president's health concerns and a conflicting scheduled hearing related to his criminal trial on insurrection charges. Yoon had previously appeared at the office of Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-suk on Saturday for the first round of questioning over allegations concerning his failed attempt to implement martial law in December.

Despite the request, the special counsel only partially agreed, moving the session to Tuesday instead of the requested Thursday or later. Yoon's lawyers criticized the special counsel's decision, arguing that it contradicts the principles of voluntary investigation and the Criminal Procedure Code by allowing the investigative authority to unilaterally set the schedule.

The special counsel's team maintains that the scheduling of appearances is within their jurisdiction and has indicated that they may seek a warrant to detain Yoon if he continues to disregard the orders.
