Pyongyang: North Korea on Monday heaped praise on state founder Kim Il-sung, recalling his leadership as flawless as the country marks the 31st anniversary of the late leader's death this week.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Rodong Sinmun, North Korea's most widely read newspaper, reported that Kim Il-sung led the revolution to victory without making a single mistake in policy direction. The newspaper described Kim as "a peerless great man," emphasizing his enduring influence on the nation's political landscape.
The publication also highlighted that Kim Il-sung's vision of building a powerful country is being realized by the current leader Kim Jong-un. It noted that "all the dreams and ideals wished for by the people will be materialized into reality," suggesting a continuity of leadership and vision within the ruling family.
As the anniversary of Kim Il-sung's death on July 8, 1994, approaches, North Korea has been engaging in commemorative activities. Schoolchildren participated in a presentation event at the Mangyongdae Children's Palace in Pyongyang, while foreign organizations and others laid flower baskets at the founder's statue in the capital.
Last year, Kim Jong-un visited and paid his respects at the family mausoleum on the 30th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's death. However, he is expected to skip the visit this year, marking a departure from previous commemorative practices.
