North korea: North Korea called for continued loyalty to leader Kim Jong-un as it marked the 31st anniversary of the death of his grandfather and state founder Kim Il-sung, according to state media Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Rodong Sinmun newspaper urged citizens to prioritize the party's revolutionary ideology, emphasizing the importance of advancing the nation's dignity and strength under Kim Jong-un's leadership. The report highlighted the significance of dedicating efforts towards the prosperity of North Korea's unique socialist model.
The newspaper also noted that North Korea's defense capabilities are progressing significantly, supporting the party's vision of establishing the country as a powerful and prosperous entity. This statement was made as the country observed the anniversary of Kim Il-sung's death, which occurred on July 8, 1994.
On the anniversary, Kim Jong-un, along with key party officials, visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, where he paid respects to Kim Il-sung. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that North Koreans mourned the state founder with solemnity, with flags lowered to half-mast across the nation.
Mourners visited the mausoleum in Pyongyang, where Kim Il-sung's body is interred, as well as his statue on Mansudae Hill. The KCNA also mentioned that various events were organized to honor Kim Il-sung's achievements.
