Seoul: A special counsel team announced on Wednesday its plans to question former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo again later this week regarding his alleged involvement in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed attempt to declare martial law.
According to Yonhap News Agency, special counsel Cho Eun-suk's team, which is investigating Yoon's martial law bid, has requested Han to appear for another session of questioning at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. This follows a marathon session that lasted around 16 hours and concluded early on Wednesday. Han is accused of failing to prevent Yoon's declaration on December 3 while serving as the second-in-command to the president. The team suspects Han of being a key accomplice in the attempt.
The special counsel team is expected to decide whether to request an arrest warrant for Han following the upcoming session on Friday. During the extensive questioning earlier this week, Han reportedly cooperated with investigators and did not exercise his right to remain silent.
Han was one of six Cabinet members whom Yoon had called upon to discuss his plans to declare martial law. He participated in a Cabinet meeting that reviewed the decree and in another meeting that lifted it on December 4. The team suspects that Han attempted to give procedural legitimacy to Yoon's declaration by suggesting a Cabinet meeting with a quorum.
Han has informed police investigators that he tried to dissuade Yoon from proceeding with the declaration by advising him to consider the opinions of other Cabinet members. Late last month, Cho's team conducted a raid on Han's residence to seize materials related to the investigation as evidence.
