Seoul: Jimin and Jungkook, members of the K-pop group BTS, have been discharged from the South Korean military after completing their 18-month mandatory service. Fans eagerly awaited their return as they were released on Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the two stars appeared in military uniforms and saluted a cheering crowd at a public sports facility near their former unit in Yeoncheon. The ceremony drew hundreds of fans and journalists, who applauded and cheered as Jimin and Jungkook arrived.
Jimin and Jungkook greeted the crowd with smiles and bouquets from their agency officials. Jimin expressed gratitude, acknowledging the long wait due to COVID-19 and military service. He shared hopes of showcasing an improved version of themselves and urged support for soldiers.
Jungkook, slightly flustered, addressed the crowd, admitting his nerves about being on camera without makeup. He extended thanks to fellow soldiers and hinted at sharing more stories during a live broadcast on Weverse.
Jimin and Jungkook enlisted as active-duty soldiers in December 2023, serving in the Army's 5th Infantry Division Artillery Brigade in Yeoncheon. Their discharge follows that of BTS members Jin, J-Hope, RM, and V, who completed their service last year and earlier this week.
The group anticipates reuniting after Suga completes his duty on June 21, serving as a social service agent due to health issues.
