Seoul: Kim Hyung-du, the longest-serving of the current justices of the Constitutional Court, was chosen Monday as its interim leader. Kim was elected acting president during a meeting of the court's justices following the retirements of then-acting President Moon Hyung-bae and Justice Lee Mi-son last week.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim is a graduate of Seoul National University School of Law and has previously served as a presiding judge of the Seoul High Court, chief researcher of the Judicial Policy Research Institute, and vice minister of the National Court Administration. He was appointed a justice of the Constitutional Court in March 2023.
Kim is known for being ideologically moderate with a strong understanding of legal principles and a flexible approach to thinking. With two vacancies on the nine-member bench, Kim will lead a seven-member bench for now.
