Washington: The finance ministers of South Korea and China held a meeting in Washington and exchanged their views on various global financial issues, Seoul's finance ministry said Thursday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok met with his Chinese counterpart, Lan Fo'an, on the sidelines of the Group of 20 (G20) meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors taking place in the U.S. capital. The discussions covered cooperation for the forthcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plus three finance meeting to be hosted in China, as well as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) finance ministers' meeting scheduled to occur in South Korea.
The ministers also explored avenues to expand collaboration centered on multilateral development banks. This discussion coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Opinions on a variety of global financial issues were exchanged during their meeting, as noted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
In a separate meeting, Choi engaged with his Polish counterpart, Andrzej Domanski, to deliberate on enhancing bilateral cooperation in defense and reconstruction efforts in Ukraine, alongside other economic sectors. South Korea is on the verge of finalizing a contract valued at 9 trillion won (US$6.3 billion) for the export of 180 additional K2 battle tanks to Poland.
Choi also conversed with World Bank (WB) President Ajay Banga, discussing the expansion of cooperation in digital technologies. This includes the establishment of the WB's digital information center and digital trust fund in South Korea within the current year, according to the ministry.
