German chancellor, on first Asia trip, heads to Tokyo for 20 hours

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Tokyo on Thursday, where he will meet Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during his first trip to Asia since assuming office in December. Scholz, who departed Berlin early Wednesday evening, will only spend roughly 20 hours in Tokyo – less than the duration of the flight there and back again. He will attend an event celebrating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan.
