Government Approves 66 Regulatory Sandbox Projects in Mobility and Hydrogen Sectors for Tech Advancements

Seoul: The government announced its approval of 66 regulatory sandbox projects aimed at fostering innovation in the advanced industries of mobility and hydrogen, among other fields. These projects are set to explore new technological advancements without the constraints of existing regulations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, in the mobility sector, the Korea Automotive Technology Institute has received approval to pilot test wireless charging for self-driving electric vehicles. Additionally, the state-run Agency for Defense Development will demonstrate an unmanned underwater vehicle powered by hydrogen fuel cells. Kia Corp. has also been granted permission to test a mobile hydrogen fuel cell generator, which can provide rapid power supply in emergency situations.

Regulatory sandbox projects are designed to allow companies the flexibility to test innovative products, services, and business models temporarily, free from the usual regulatory oversight. An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "We reviewed demonstration applications involving products and services that utilize advanced technologies, with a particular focus on areas of the development of next-generation defense technologies."

The official further emphasized the government's commitment to supporting the testing and commercialization of new technologies across various sectors.
