Government Intensifies Efforts to Deport Non-Compliant Foreigners

Seoul: Foreigners who defy eviction orders will face forcible deportation, the justice ministry announced Tuesday. Forced eviction is being implemented as the most stringent administrative action against foreigners illegally in the country or those violating their stay conditions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the ministry revealed plans to establish a dedicated overseas escort team to expedite the repatriation of foreigners deemed undesirable for continued residence. This move comes in response to cases where foreigners have prolonged their stay in detention facilities by refusing to apply for necessary travel documents, which substitute for a passport during deportation.

Last week, an individual was deported after successfully being issued a travel document in collaboration with their embassy, accompanied by a South Korean official on their return journey.

Acting Justice Minister Kim Seok-woo emphasized the importance of enforcing these measures, noting, "As we face an era of 3 million foreigners residing in the country, we will pursue a sustainable immigration policy based on public consensus and actively enforce deportations for foreigners illegally staying in the country."
