Seoul: The chief state auditor on Thursday welcomed the Constitutional Court's "wise decision" in rejecting the National Assembly's impeachment motion against him. Earlier in the day, the court rejected a motion impeaching Choe Jae-hae, chair of the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI), over his alleged poor review of suspected irregularities surrounding the 2022 relocation of the presidential office and residence.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Choe Jae-hae expressed his commitment to ensuring that the BAI "functions properly so that the public does not have any concerns" when he returns to his duties. Speaking to reporters shortly after the decision, he emphasized the agency's focus on establishing discipline among public servants as a priority moving forward.
Choe had been impeached by the opposition-controlled National Assembly in December, marking a significant political challenge to his leadership at the BAI. The court's decision to dismiss the impeachment motion has reinforced Choe's position, allowing him to continue his work without interruption.
