Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's leading carmaker, announced a strategic collaboration with Nvidia Corp. to bolster innovation in artificial intelligence (AI)-based future mobility solutions. This initiative involves the development of a new AI infrastructure utilizing Nvidia's latest Blackwell chips.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the partnership aims at enhancing Hyundai Motor Group's future competitiveness by jointly developing AI capabilities for mobility solutions, next-generation smart factories, and on-device semiconductor technologies. The collaboration will see the deployment of 50,000 Nvidia Blackwell graphics processing units (GPUs) to create integrated AI models.
Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung emphasized the significance of this venture, highlighting the pivotal role of AI-powered mobility and smart factories. The collaboration with Nvidia is a crucial step in building advanced technologies and establishing a robust AI ecosystem in Korea.
The announcement aligns with an earlier statement from Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who revealed plans to supply up to 260,000 Blackwell GPUs for AI data centers in partnership with South Korean entities such as Samsung Electronics Co., Naver Cloud Corp., and the Seoul government.
Nvidia's AI and computing platforms are set to transform transportation, impacting vehicle design, manufacturing, robotics, and autonomous driving. The partnership with Hyundai aims to create intelligent cars and factories poised to redefine the future of the mobility industry, Huang stated.
Hyundai plans to integrate in-vehicle AI, autonomous driving, factory automation, and robotics into a seamless, intelligent ecosystem using its Blackwell-based AI factory and computing infrastructure. The Nvidia Omniverse Enterprise platform will facilitate the development of advanced factory digital twins, enabling precision control and virtual commissioning.
Additionally, Nvidia's software-based AI models may support over-the-air updates for Hyundai vehicles, enhancing their capabilities and features.
In a separate agreement, Hyundai and Nvidia, along with the South Korean government, signed a trilateral memorandum of understanding to invest in a national physical AI cluster project estimated at US$3 billion. This initiative will establish Hyundai Motor Group's Physical AI Application Center, Nvidia AI Technology Center, and related data centers in the region.
