Hyundai Department Store Achieves Turnaround with Fourth-Quarter Net Profit

Seoul: Hyundai Department Store Co. on Tuesday reported its fourth-quarter net income of 45.5 billion won (US$31.3 million), turning from a loss of 197.8 billion won a year earlier. This marks a significant turnaround for the company, which had faced financial challenges in the previous year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the company announced in a regulatory filing that its operating income for the October-December period rose 12.4 percent on-year to 107.9 billion won. This increase in operating income reflects the company's efforts to bolster its financial standing and improve its operational efficiency. Furthermore, sales increased 3.5 percent to 1.17 trillion won, indicating a positive trend in consumer demand and the company's market presence.

Despite these improvements, the earnings fell short of market expectations. Analysts had projected an average net profit of 47.2 billion won, as per a survey conducted by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data firm of Yonhap News Agency. This discrepancy highlights the challenges Hyundai Department Store faces in aligning its performance with market predictions.
