Lee Appoints New Vice Ministers and Vice Chief of Corporate Watchdog

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has appointed vice ministers of defense, health, environment and labor, and the vice chief of the corporate watchdog in the latest round of personnel appointments, the presidential office said Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Doo-hee, a three-star general and commander of the Army Strategic Missile Command, has been appointed vice defense minister. "He is a defense expert with extensive experience in both field operations and policy departments, well-suited to respond to the evolving battlefield environment and to strengthen comprehensive deterrence capabilities based on the South Korea-U.S. alliance," presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a briefing.

Lee Seu-ran, director-general for social welfare policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, was promoted to first vice minister. Kwon Chang-jun, director-general for planning and coordination at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, was also elevated to vice minister.

Kum Han-seung, president of the National Institute of Environmental Research, was named vice minister of environment.

Nam Dong-il, a standing member of the Fair Trade Commission, was promoted to vice chairperson of the corporate watchdog, a vice ministerial-level post.
