Lee Jae Myung to Hold First Formal Press Conference This Week

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung is set to hold his first formal press conference later this week, marking 30 days since he assumed office, the presidential office announced on Monday. The upcoming event, slated for Thursday, will be conducted in a town hall meeting format. It is expected to cover a wide range of topics, including livelihoods, the economy, politics, diplomacy and security, society, and culture, as confirmed by presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the venue for the press conference will be disclosed at a later date. Kang Yu-jung emphasized that the event aims to demonstrate the early stabilization of the Lee Jae Myung administration. It also seeks to actively communicate the future direction of state affairs and key policy initiatives. Lee's administration began without a transition team, a unique situation following his assumption of office on June 4 after a snap election. This election was necessitated by the removal of former President Yoon Suk Yeol in April over a failed martial law bid.

The press conference is notably scheduled much earlier than those of Lee's predecessors, who typically held their first formal briefings around the 100-day mark. This decision reflects the administration's urgency in addressing pressing national issues and engaging with the public from the onset of Lee's presidency.
