Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung is scheduled to meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong on Thursday, sources said, with discussions expected to focus on trade and investment in the United States amid trade negotiations between Seoul and Washington.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the proposed dinner meeting comes at a time when South Korea seeks to reach a trade agreement with the U.S. to lower reciprocal tariffs of 25 percent on Korean goods before the Aug. 1 deadline, with a package deal that includes provisions on trade, investment, and security cooperation.
It will be President Lee's latest engagement with top business leaders, following recent dinner meetings with Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung and LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo.
The presidential office did not confirm Lee's meeting.
