According to Yonhap News Agency, the visit is at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The Korean Central News Agency of North Korea has confirmed the diplomatic trip, while China's Xinhua News Agency specified that the visit will commence on Saturday and conclude next Tuesday.
This visit is set against the backdrop of North Korea's preparations for a major military parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea's founding, which will occur on October 10. North Korea is reportedly extending invitations to state leaders for the occasion.
