North Korea’s Recent Activities Spark International Attention

Seoul: This week has seen a series of significant developments regarding North Korea, capturing international attention and prompting varied reactions from global entities.

According to Yonhap News Agency, on May 18th, North Korea's health minister departed for the World Health Organization assembly in Switzerland, marking a notable engagement in international health discussions. On the same day, a North Korean university resumed the Chinese language test, a move not seen in five years. The following day, North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-un, paid tribute to a prominent military figure, and the nation removed the term 'unification' from the name of a building in the truce village of Panmunjom. Additionally, there were discussions about the possibility of Kim facing a war crime probe due to his support for Russia's war against Ukraine.

On May 20th, defectors, activists, and supporters called for action to address human rights issues in North Korea during a United Nations meeting. Simultaneously, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio indicated that the process to appoint a North Korean human rights envoy was underway, aiming to find the appropriate individual for this role.
