Police Question Former Leaders Over Alleged Roles in Martial Law Attempt

Seoul: Police said Monday they were questioning former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and former Interior Minister Lee Sang-min on insurrection charges over their alleged roles in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed martial law bid. The National Office of Investigation's special investigation team reported that they had brought in Han and Lee as suspects in the case, and were questioning them over their attendance at a Cabinet meeting Yoon held shortly before he declared martial law on Dec. 3.

According to Yonhap News Agency, police said their previous testimonies about the Cabinet meeting were inconsistent with surveillance camera footage recently obtained from the Presidential Security Service. "We are in the process of verifying (their testimonies), as there are discrepancies with news reports and testimonies given at the National Assembly, the Constitutional Court and the investigative agencies," a police official told reporters, without elaborating on the details of the investigation.

As for Lee, police were also probing him over allegations he ordered the National Fire Agency to cut off electricity and water to media agencies following the martial law imposition.
