Renault Korea’s April Sales Decline by 1.4% Due to Weak Exports

Seoul: Renault Korea Motors, the South Korean subsidiary of Renault S.A., reported a 1.4 percent decrease in sales for April compared to the previous year, attributing the decline to reduced export activity. The company announced on Friday that it sold a total of 10,427 vehicles in April, a drop from the 10,572 units sold during the same month last year, largely due to diminished demand from overseas markets.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Renault Korea experienced a significant boost in domestic sales, which nearly tripled, reaching 5,252 units compared to 1,780 units in the same period last year. This increase was driven by strong demand for the midsize Grand Koleos sport utility vehicle (SUV) and the coupe-style Arcana SUV, previously branded as the XM3. However, these domestic gains were offset by a sharp decline in exports, which fell by 41 percent year-on-year to 5,175 units from 8,792.

In the first four months of the year, Renault Korea's cumulative sales increased by 8.1 percent, totaling 28,599 units, up from 26,453 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Domestic sales saw a substantial rise, more than doubling to 18,850 vehicles from 7,271, while exports suffered a steep drop of 49 percent, decreasing to 9,749 units from 19,182.

Renault Korea's current product lineup includes the SM6 midsize sedan, QM6 sport utility vehicle, Grand Koleos SUV, Arcana SUV, and the Master minivan.
