New york: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the significance of the trilateral relationship among South Korea, the United States, and Japan as "critical" for maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Rubio's comments came during a meeting with his counterparts from the Asian allies in New York.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Rubio shared his views in a social media post following the trilateral discussions with Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya. The meeting took place ahead of the U.N. General Assembly, underscoring the importance of the tripartite cooperation.
"Our trilateral partnership is critical to promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and to advancing economic and security cooperation," Rubio stated on X, highlighting the strategic importance of the alliance.
The trilateral talks are part of ongoing efforts by Seoul, Washington, and Tokyo to strengthen collaboration amid increasing security challenges, including North Korea's advancing nuclear and missile capabilities and China's growing presence in the region.
