Seoul: Samsung Electronics Co. announced that it, along with its construction and trading affiliate Samsung C and T Corp., will invest a total of US$110 million in Nasdaq-listed U.S. biotechnology firm Grail Inc. The investment is aimed at introducing Grail's multi-cancer early detection test to Asian markets.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the two companies have signed a letter of intent for strategic collaboration with Grail. Under this agreement, they will jointly invest in Grail by purchasing shares at a price of $70.05 per share of common stock, with the investment anticipated to close in early 2026.
Grail specializes in healthcare, focusing on the early detection of multiple cancer types through AI-driven DNA analysis. Its flagship product, the Galleri test, can identify over 50 types of cancer from a single blood sample, based on extensive clinical trials.
Through the partnership, Samsung C and T and Grail will exclusively commercialize the Galleri test in South Korea, with potential expansion into other Asian markets such as Japan and Singapore. Samsung Electronics also plans to explore strategic and operational collaborations with Grail, aiming to integrate its health data platform with Grail's technologies and datasets.
This investment is part of Samsung Electronics' broader strategy to expand its healthcare IT ecosystem, following its acquisition of U.S. digital health technology company Xealth in July. Hon Pak, senior vice president and head of the digital health team at Samsung Electronics, stated that the potential collaboration with Grail could integrate AI, digital care platforms, and device ecosystems with Grail's clinical genetic data and technology, enhancing personalized health understanding for users.
