Seoul: Seoul experienced its ninth consecutive tropical night between Sunday and Monday, with the minimum nighttime temperature staying near 29 C, far above the reference point of 25 C, the state weather service said. The capital's nighttime low only dropped to 28.8 C, which will become the second-highest daily low for July since modern record-keeping began here in 1907, if the temperature does not fall enough after sunset on Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, July's highest daily low temperature on record in Seoul is 29.2 C seen on July 23, 2018. Even including August, there have only been three days in which the daily minimum temperature exceeded 28.8 C -- 30.3 C on Aug. 2, 2018, 30 C on Aug. 3, 2018, and July 23, 2018, the KMA noted. In the east coast city of Gangneung, the lowest nighttime temperature did not drop below 30 C last night amid an eighth consecutive tropical night.
The sizzling heat waves will continue for the time being, the agency said, forecasting daily highs of 32 C to 37 C nationwide Monday. The mercury will again rise to 37 C in Seoul and 36 C in both Daejeon and Daegu. For now, there is no forecast of rain until Aug. 7, the KMA added.
