SPC Samlip to Halt Production of Hit ‘KBO Bread’ After Fatal Factory Accident

Siheung: SPC Samlip Co., a confectionery unit under SPC Group, announced that it will discontinue its popular "KBO Bread" line following a fatal accident at one of its factories.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the decision was made after a female worker tragically lost her life when her upper body was caught in a conveyor belt during lubrication work at the company's factory in Siheung, approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Seoul, on May 19. Operations at the facility have been suspended since the incident.

SPC Samlip stated on its website, "After consultation with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), the production of KBO Bread will be halted. We will do our utmost to strengthen safety measures and restore customer confidence."

The Siheung plant was responsible for manufacturing KBO Bread, a product that was launched in late March and quickly became a bestseller, selling over 10 million units in just 41 days. Each pack of KBO Bread included photo stickers of KBO players, which sparked a craze among baseball fans.
