Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump revealed on Monday that there is "communication" with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, suggesting he might "do something" regarding North Korea at an unspecified future time.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump's remarks were made during a press availability session amid ongoing speculation about the possibility of resuming direct diplomacy with Kim. The past diplomatic engagements between the two leaders included three in-person meetings from 2018 to 2019. Trump described his relationship with Kim as "great" and emphasized the importance of maintaining communication with the North Korean leader, whom he referred to as a "smart guy" leading a "big nuclear nation."
He recounted his memorable experience from June 2019, when he crossed the Military Demarcation Line into North Korea at Kim's invitation, highlighting the personal rapport he developed with Kim during their interactions. Trump expressed his intention to engage with North Korea at some point, though he did not provide specifics on the timing or nature of such actions.
Shortly after assuming office in January, Trump stated in an interview that he planned to reach out to Kim again. The historic meetings between the two leaders took place in Singapore in June 2018, Hanoi in February 2019, and the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjom in June 2019.
