Prosecutors File for Arrest Warrants Against Presidential Security Officials for Obstruction

Seoul: Prosecutors have filed for warrants to arrest two senior officials of the Presidential Security Service (PSS) accused of obstructing investigators' attempt to detain impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, officials said Tuesday. The request was made to the Seoul Western District Court by prosecutors from the Seoul Western District Prosecutors Office, targeting acting PSS chief Kim Seong-hoon and Lee Kwang-woo, chief of the PSS's bodyguard division.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim and Lee are accused of obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant for Yoon in January. The allegations include taking unjust personnel actions and instructing subordinates to delete records of phone conversations between Yoon and military commanders involved in the December 3 martial law declaration. This move followed the police's renewed application for warrants to arrest the two senior PSS officials.

Prosecutors had previously rejected the police's requests to seek arrest warrants for the PSS officials on three occasions. The recent filing marks another effort by authorities to address the alleged obstruction related to the detention of the impeached president.
