Seoul: Korea Aerospace Industries Co. (KAI), South Korea's sole aircraft manufacturer, has announced the signing of a 140 billion-won (US$103.3 million) contract with Collins Aerospace for the supply of engine components for Airbus aircraft. The contract outlines KAI's commitment to providing engine nacelle components for Airbus A350 and A320 NEO aircraft over a decade-long period starting in 2027.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Collins Aerospace is recognized as one of the largest suppliers of aerospace and defense products globally. The engine nacelle, which is a protective cover for jet engines, plays a crucial role in enhancing aircraft efficiency by improving airflow and reducing noise levels. This agreement builds upon a previous deal signed in 2023, valued at 34.7 billion won, where KAI supplied machined parts for engine nacelles used in B787, A320 NEO, and A220 aircraft.
KAI has indicated that the latest contract will aid in expanding its presence within the commercial aircraft component sector. A company official noted that KAI's technical capabilities are gaining global recognition not only in military aircraft projects like the KF-21, FA-50, and Surion but also in the commercial aircraft structural component sector. With the commercial aircraft business on the rise, KAI plans to develop this sector into one of the company's core businesses.
